District 2 Rep. Erbie A. Fabian, the mayoralty standard bearer of ‘Fuerza Zamboanga’, an alliance of independent candidates for elective posts in the forthcoming May 2013 elections, will lead the group in filing their respective Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) today at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Office at the Enriquez Sports Complex in RT Lim Boulevard.

Cong. Fabian will be accompanied by running mate, former councilor Luis Climaco, Councilor Lilia M. Nuño, the group’s standard bearer for Congress in the city’s second district and 10 others who are seeking seats in the City Council.

Those in the ‘Fuerza’ lineup for councilors in the first district are re-election seeking Councilor Mel Sadain, former Ayala Police Chief Hado Edding, popular newspaper columnist Mike Apostol, and former PNP Aviation Deputy Chief Joselito Bernardo.

The group’s bets for the august body in the Second District are noted surgeon and civic leader Dr. Antonio ‘Bondjing’ Feliciano, former government broadcaster and newspaperman Roseller Enriquez, University professor Dr. Carlito Depositario, young Cabaluay Barangay Captain Mako Apolinario, FELTRANZ President and Water District Board member Ed Mingala, and Former Councilor and broadcast veteran Gerry Acuña.

In a meeting held at a local restaurant last Wednesday evening, Rep. Fabian declared that the group is formalizing its commitment to carry out an agenda for change in the pursuit of good governance, peace and progress.

The group will start the day early with a prayerful gathering at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Pillar after which it will motor, along with supporters to the Comelec Office in RT Lim to file their COCs.

The 13-strong Fuerza coalition will file their COCs as independent candidates or their respective party affiliations.

It will then motor to Pasonanca where a press conference is slated to formally present the candidates to the media and the people of Zamboanga.

Cong. Fabian in a press statement said today’s filing will finally put to rest the issue on whether he will run or be willing to accept another post from Malacanang to give way to a rival candidate.

“I’m definitely running and we have assembled a group of respected men and women who are committed to better public service in the city in the pursuit of our various agenda for the benefit of the city.”

Acknowledging the Fuerza group is the clear underdog in the forthcoming May polls, Fabian said they are offering their services to the good people of Zamboanga as capable alternative to choose from by the electorate.

He said he is confident the Fuerza lineup will be up to the task of moving Zamboanga City forward to peace, progress and good governance.

In fielding a lineup that is seven men short, Fabian said the group is looking at adopting like minded guest candidates from among those running later on when the campaign period starts.
The people of Zamboanga City will now have a wider choice of candidates even as he vowed the Fuerza Zamboanga Team will conduct its campaign next year at the highest level in its earnest desire for clean honest elections in Zamboanga City.
Atty. Quirino Esguerra is the group’s legal counsel while Councilor and Association of Barangay Council President Abdurahman Nuño has been designated as political adviser of the group.
