Regatta slated Sunday as fiesta fever heats up PDF Print E-mail

People from all walks of life are expected to converge on R.T. Lim Boulevard tomorrow morning to witness this year’s Regatta, a traditional race of vintas adorned with colorful sails, as the Fiesta Hermosa Festival heats up.

More than 100 fisher folks from the different coastal barangays of the city have already registered for the vinta race that promises thrill and excitement not only to the contestant but also among spectators that will include domestic and foreign tourists.

Today, the 6th day of the month-long festival, opens the Flores y Amores Golf Tournament at the Zamboanga Golf and Beach Park from 7 a.m. onwards.

At 8 a.m., the Operating Room Nurses Association of the Philippines (ORNAP) Zamboanga City Chapter will conduct the 7th Regional Convention and Scientific Meeting at the Garden Orchid Hotel.

At 10 a.m., a car show dubbed “Zamboanga Import Nights” will unfold at Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca, while the art exhibit will open at 6 p.m. at the Garden Orchid Hotel. The Alumni Homecoming of the Zamboanga Easta and West Central School at 5 p.m. at the school compound.

Tomorrow, aside from the Regatta there will be the opening of the “Rakista Zamboanga” battle of the bands at 7 p.m. at Plaza del Mar and the 4th Mindanao Convention of Lawyers at Garden Orchid Hotel.

The Dancesport competition at 8 a.m. tomorrow will draw thousands mostly students from the different participating schools at the Zamboanga City Coliseum in Tetuan.

The month-long festival anchored on the theme “Fiesta Hermosa Festival… Mas Alegre na Zamboanga” will highlight the feast of the city’s patroness, the miraculous Lady of the Pillar, on October 12, which is a special non-working holiday in Zamboanga City. — Vic Larato
