Mayor Celso Lobregat and Philippine Consul to Spain Ramon Balaguer spearheaded the opening of ‘Solamente’, a month-long visual arts exhibit highlighting Fiesta Hermosa day 6, Saturday at the Garden Orchid Hotel in Gov. Camins.

The exhibit, which runs from October 6 to November 6, features the art works of internationally acclaimed artist Rameer Tawasil and New York-based Zamboangueno photographer Enrico Tobias and 18 other artists Rommel Racho, Sandra Jamiro, Francisco Lorenzo, Chito Alvarez, Mark Burda, Ma. Angel Yanos, Sheena Cascon, Maridol Vasquez, Wilhelmina Siasico, Ahl Qasmi Lakibul, Moh. Rezza Abbas, Teofilo Torino, Ma. Victoria Sebastian, Bambut Montano, Nicasio Lacno, Eisilane Muldong, JA Cabato and Raul Bendonillo.

Lobregat in his message took great pride of the City’s visual artists, as he likewise expressed pride on Zamboanga City.

“Zamboanga has been blessed with unique chabacano language, colorful history and rich yet diverse culture, as well as talented and artistic people as evidenced by the works of art featured in this exhibit”, Lobregat stated.

He pointed out that the art pieces on exhibit reflect the past, present and future of the city as well as the hopes and dreams of each and every Zamboangueño. “Each of these artworks bears the heart and dreams of its artist. I hope we all feel the message they wish to impart and draw inspiration from them.”

The art exhibit forms part of the Fiesta Hermosa, a celebration of Zamboanguenos’ love and devotion to Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar. “We have received so much from her benevolence and we hope for her continued guidance and protection of our city and people”, the mayor emphasized.

Aside from our devotion to La Virgen del Pilar, Fiesta Hermosa also affords Zamboanguenos, according to the mayor, the opportunity to showcase what is good, what is positive, what is beautiful about our city and people which is verbalized in this year’s theme “Fiesta Hermosa: Mas Alegre na Zamboanga”.

Also present during the opening program were Councilors Myra Paz Abubakar, Nonong Guingona, Rudy Lim, former Councilor Charlie Mariano, Urban Poor leader Violy Alejandro, Joemar Lobregat, WMSU President Dr. Milabel Ho, officials from the Joint Special Operations Task Force Philippines (JSOTFP), art lovers, relatives of featured artists and other guests.

Meanwhile, Fiesta Hermosa on Saturday, October 6 also featured “Zamboanga Import Nights”, a car show initiated by Bigdawgs owner Vince Chan at
Jardin Maria Clara. The car show is a first of its kind event in the Fiesta Hermosa.

Still a nightly entertainment for the fiesta is the Wow Zamboanga, a cultural show featuring the performances from the city’s 98 barangays. It started October 1 and will culminate tomorrow, Oct. 8.

Yesterday, Oct. 7, the city government staged Regatta, a display of colorful vinta sails at the R.T. Lim Boulevard starting at 8am.

Last night at the Plaza del Pilar, Rakista Zamboanga, a battle of the bands rocked the city’s heritage zone with a number of local amateur bands contesting for the title.
