House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao and District I Representative will once again roll out the red carpet for Zamboangueño expats, as she sponsors the annual “Balikbayan Night”, a night of entertainment and rekindled friendship, on Thursday, October 11.

Themed “Mas Que Nada”, the balikbayan night is a celebration intended to thank and welcome home fellow Zamboangueños who have been out of the country or Zamboanga but would make time to celebrate the feast of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.

The event is set at 7pm at the Hacienda de Palmeras in Pasonanca on Thursday.

The lady solon invites all balikbayans or Zamboangueno expats who are in the city to take part in the celebration with a smorgasboard of chabacano food, dances and performances.

“This is our contribution to making our Hermosa Festival meaningful to our returning compoblanos and so we invite all of them to join us”, Cong. Climaco appealed.

Hundreds of Zamboangueños residing abroad come hoem to Zamboanga to pay homage to the Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar every October. They are also invited to take part in various activities lined up for the fiesta prepared by the city government in a celebration dubbed “Fiesta Hermosa 2011”.

It has been the tradition of most of our kababayans to return home for the Fiesta Pilar celebration and that dedicating one night for them will be an unforgettable experience, Cong. Climaco said.

Beng Climaco Balikbayan Night is one of the highlights of the 2012 Fiesta Hermosa celebration in honor of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar.  The festival kicked off October 1 and culminates on Oct. 12 the feast day of the La Virgen.

The day of the Fiesta will be devoted to religious activities. It is a declared holiday in Zamboanga pursuant to a law authored by the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat when she was a member of Congress. — Marvin Segura
