In an urgent letter, Congressman Erico Basilio “Erbie” A. Fabian appealed to Philippine Air Lines (PAL) President and Chief Executive Officer Ramon Ang to reconsider a plan to end PAL’s services to Zamboanga effective Oct. 28.

Fabian said that while two other airlines are offering budget fares, PAL is still considered the first priority of flyers to Manila and elsewhere in the country.

By Oct. 28, Air Phils Express will take over operations of PAL in some parts of Mindanao, including Zamboanga city. Flight schedules will be altered and passengers going to Manila and back will then disembark and embark at Terminal 3.

Call centers have been operating 24 hours to inform passengers with confirmed tickets after the Oct. 28 turn-over of flight changes.

A close associate of Ang said yesterday that the move was purely business-based because of competition from airlines offering low fares.

PAL will now co-chair with Air Phils Express.

PAL will still serve its regional and international routes. — BJ
