Zamboanga City continues to sizzle on the 9th day of the Fiesta Hermosa celebration today, October 9, as the City Government presents Servicio Medical, a free clinic at the Plaza Pilar from 8am to 12noon.

City Health Officer Rodelin Agbulos said the medical outreach program, an annual event during Fiesta Hermosa, hopes to serve as much as 600 people, as a show of gratitude and love and devotion to Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar, the city’s patron saint.

“This year we will be holding Servicio Medical at the Plaza Pilar to bring the services nearer to La Virgen, as this is dedicated to her”, Agbulos said stressing that the venue will also be accessible to people who pay homage to the Lady of the Pillar.

The City Government has tapped private medical practitioners who will conduct specialty clinics on paediatrics, optha/ENT, rheumatology, gynecology, minor surgery for cyst removal, diabetes screening and consultation, pulmonology, cardiology, dermatology, general consultation, dental services and surgical evaluation.

Other services will include cholesterol screening, urine screen test, feeding for street kids (courtesy of the Rotary Club of Zamboanga), blood typing and free reading eye glasses for indigent patients (courtesy of the Zamboanga City Optical).

Due to the expected huge number of people who will avail of the medical services, Agbulos urges those interested to register an hour before the start of the program at 8am.

Meanwhile, Mascota, a fashion show of Latin-inspired gowns also went on stage at the Ballroom of the Garden Orchid Hotel featuring beautiful women of Zamboanga.
Mayor Celso Lobregat has called people from far and wide to join in the celebration of the good, the positive, the best and the beautiful about Zamboanga City.

He stressed Fiesta Hermosa is the grandest festival of songs, dances and presentations reflective of the city’s unique chabacano language, colorful history and rich yet diverse culture.

Yesterday afternoon, several pairs of junior and senior dancers battled it out for the title in the Dance Sport competition at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Tomorrow, October 10 will be the Wow Sardinas, a sardine eating spectacle at the R.T. Lim Boulevard at 5pm. — Sheila Covarrubias
