Policemen under City Police Director Sr. Supt. James Mejia arrested two men for possession of an unlicensed gun at a checkpoint in Guiwan last Sunday night.

Mejia identified those arrested as Erick Barrera y Delos Reyes, 23 and his relative Ifraim Barrera y Bazan, 19, both residents of Mampang. They were nabbed by members of the City Police Office’s MASCO.

Mejia’s men were manning a checkpoint along San Bernardino Bridge in Guiwan around 8:35 p.m. when two men aboard a skeletal-type motorcycle driven by Ifraim pulled over for inspection.

The lawmen noticed that Erick has a .45 caliber pistol tucked in his waist. They questioned the legality of the firearm abd Erick could not produce any document that would legalize him to bring a gun.

Confiscated was a Colt Combat Commander .45 caliber pistol with serial number 7510291 loaded with six rounds of ammunition.

The duo were taken to the Tetuan Police Station for detention pending the filing of charges in court.

Police were also trying to find out whether or not the duo were involved in the killings in the barangays of Mampang, Talon-Talon and Arena Blanco. – Dan Toribio Jr.
