NSO to conduct PSQ citywide elimination round PDF Print E-mail

The National Statistics Office  and the Philippine Statistics Association will conduct Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) City Wide  Elimination Round  on November 5, 2012 .    This year’s PSQ  is the 21st in the series  of competitions conducted  every year.

All freshmen students from various colleges and universities  in the city were invited to join in the said competition..  Winners in the city elimination round   will receive  cash prizes plus certificates of participation  and  will have the chance to compete in the Regional championship which will be held  on  November 20,  2012.  The
Regional Champion will  represent the region in the National finals to be held in Manila  on  December  4, 2012..

The Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) is an annual contest designed to test  freshman college students knowledge of  statistics.  The National Statistics Office (NSO) and the Philippine Statistical Association (PSA) have conducted the PSQ since 1992 nationwide.   The objectives of the PSQ conduct is to assess the competency and skills of students in statistics as acquired from the secondary education curriculum; to promote, entrance, and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of science, statistics in particular, among the students, and to generate public awareness on the importance of statistics in all development-planning activities and win overall support for all government statistical activities.

The PSQ identifies and nurtures talents especially in the field of statistics for evidence-based decision making.  Results of the contest can also provide indications of the effectiveness of the statistics component of mathematics as a subject of the secondary curriculum.
