SEMPORNA, Malaysia — The peace framework signed by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Philippines government this month can benefit Malaysia as well, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said the agreement will bring about long term economic progress in the southern region of the Philippines and in Malaysia, especially in Sabah.

“The agreement will benefit not just the Muslims but also the community at large,” he told reporters after the Aidiladha prayers and handing over of Qurban aid at the Pekan Semporna Mosque here Friday.

The agreement, signed on Oct 15, at the Malacanang Palace, was witnessed by Philippines President Benigno Aguino III and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Shafie said other Muslim countries in conflict can also look to the peace agreement as a catalyst for achieving peace and unity.
