Over 1,000 affected by flood, landslides in Sibugay, Z. Sur PDF Print E-mail

Some 1,200 families in Poblacion Imelda and 50 families in Barangay Bula-an, Buug, both in Zamboanga Sibugay evacuated to safer place due to five-feet high water level while two other families were moved to safer grounds  because of landslide in Purok 3, Barangay Lamare, Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur brought about by incessant rains since Wedneday, Oct. 24.

In coordination with local officials, units of the Army’s 1st (Tabak) Infantry Division in the area immediately assisted the affected families for evacuation and coordinated disaster rescue and relief operations.

Troops from the 44th Infantry Battalion responded and undertook rescue and relief operations in Imelda using the municipal gym as evacuation center.

On the other hand, soldiers from the 102nd Brigade undertook similar operations in Barangay Bulaan while the peace and development teams of the 53rd IB situated in Bayog responded and helped those families affected by landslides in Bayog.

During an ocular inspection by local officials in the areas, 1,200 families were counted as affected in Imelda, while some 100 houses were affected in Barangay Bula-an. Some 150 people were evacuated to the Villa Castor Elementary School.
