Boat captain, 9 crews probed on fish theft PDF Print E-mail

The boat captain and nine crew members of a fishing vessel were placed under investigation in connection with a theft that took place aboard the boat last Friday afternoon.

A police report disclosed that Mrs. Elena Ting, owner of the GST Fishing Corporation reported to the Ayala Police Station that she discovered several assorted fresh and dried fish and squid hidden in the lockers of some crew members of the vessel.

Policemen conducted a follow-up operation resulting in the arrest of Maximo Sabocojan, 60, boat captain and crew members,  Edgardo Asopar y Labandera, chief mate; Assistant Engineer Nelson Lachica, 42, Ronald Revillas, 32, Alberto Pasculado, Rolly Cahumna, 41, Emelito Cabaluna, 27, Ronel Nacal, 24, Rodel Maguinda, 20 and Marvin Gabatan, 19.

Police also recovered from their respective lockers one tub of “tulingan”, two tubs of “matambaka”, one and a half tub of fresh squid, one tub of assorted fish, 67 kilos of dried fish and 48 kilos of dried squid with total value of P50,800.

Police suspect the crewmembers stole the sea products from the vessel. – Dan Toribio Jr.
