A 3-storey 18 classroom building initiated and funded by the City Government at the Mampang Elementary School is up for inauguration and turnover this week.

The Mampang Elementary School is one of the highly populated elementary schools in the city and the construction of more classrooms is expected to help improve classroom-student ratio.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said the P17.44 million school building in Mampang is a result of the Basic Education Impact Study (BEIS) that the Local School Board in coordination with the Department of Education (DEPED) through the Division of City Schools undertake yearly.

Through the BEIS, the agencies concerned will determine which school is in dire need of school buildings and the number of classrooms required.

From two-storey school buildings, the city government, in its school building program, has shifted to 3-storey and multi-classroom buildings because of lack of space in some school campuses.

The newly-constructed Mampang Elementary School was undertaken by MSDLR Construction and has a length/area of 1,680.18 square meters.

The building will be unveiled Friday, November 18 with Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro as guest of honor. Five other school buildings constructed in other public elementary and secondary schools will be inaugurated and unveiled on the same day.

The new school building in Mampang is apart from the total P1.186 billion that the city government has invested from 2007 to June 30, 2012. — Sheila Covarrubias
