Week of Peace 2012 gets endorsements PDF Print E-mail

As the Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace, Peace Advocates Zamboanga and Youth Solidarity for Peace (YSP) ready their preparation for the week-long celebration o the Week of Peace 2012 on November 29 to December 5, 2012, institutions have thrown support to the celebration through the issuance of endorsement letters.

Indorsements and memorandum circulars are instrumental to the success of the initial preparation, especially those coming from the Department of Interior and Local Government, Civil Service Commission, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Education, Liga ng mga Barangay and Office of the City Administrator- Mayor’s Office.

In support to the endorsement, Mayor Celso Lorenzo Lobregat issued Executive Order No. CL 483- 2012, declaring the period from November 29, 2012 to December 05, 2012 as Mindanao Week of Peace”.

Lobregat also issued through the Office of the City Administrator a permit for the Grand Peace Parades — opening and Torch Parade on November 29, 2012 from Pettit Barracks to the Enriquez Sports Complez and December 5, 2012 from the sports complex to Paseo del mar, respectively.

OIC-DILG City Director Moh. Taha S. Arakama issued its 1st Indorsement on November 5, 2012 stating “respectfully referring to Hon. Celso L. Lobregat, City Mayor of Zamboanbga, Hon. Abdurahman Nuno, president, Liga ng mga Barangay, Zamboanga City Chapter and Member, Sangguniang Panglungsod, the within request of the conveners of the Interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace-Peace Advocates Zamboanga for an executive issuance enjoining the active participation of the offices, agencies, institutions, partner organizations including the barangays in the City of Zamboanga in the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 127, s. 2001.”

On November 12, DILG issued another indorsement “respectfully refereeing to Hon. Joanna Mari D. Mas, president, Sangguniang Kabataan federation, Zamboanga City the within requests of the conveners of the IRSMP-PAZ for the active participation of th Sangguniang Kabataan in the celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace.”

DILG issued also another indorsment dated 31st of October 2012 for the active participation for the Search of the Peace Weaver Awards 2012 along with the Liga ng mga Barangay signed by Hon. Abdurahman Nuno a Memo No. 07- 2012 seeking active participation of the Liga ng mga Barangay to the Search and celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace.

Meanwhile, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) issued RMC No. 03, S. 2012 and RMC No. 3-A. S. 2012 addressed to all heads of departments, bureaus and agencies of the national and local governments, including government-owned and controlled corporations, state Universities and colleges in Region 9.

Atty. Macybel Alfaro-Sahi, Director IV of the Civil Service Commission, issued the RMC enjoining Agency Support in the Mindanao Week of Peace. She mentioned that “it is the opportune time to show our solidarity in living out the theme of the Mindanao Week of Peace”. IRSMP, PAZ and YSP, the organization who are at the forefront of the various activities lined-up for the Mindanao Week of Peace with the theme “Together for Sustainable Peace in Mindanao”.

Commission on Higher Education  Regional Director Dr. Emmylou B. Yanga, Ed.D. issued endorsement letter on October 23, 2012 to all President/Head of Private and Public Higher Education Institutions in Zamboanga City. “The Office encourages the active participation of all concerned higher education institutions and partner organizations to the series of activities slated for this year”.

Pedro Melchor M. Natividad, CSEE, Schools’ Division Superintendent of the Department of Education issued Division memorandum No. 44, S. 2012 addressed to all School heads/Principals of public Secondary and elementary schools on June 7, 2012, informing the schools of the peace program for peace education/advocacy to include the Mindanao Week of Peace on Nov. 29-December 5, 2012.

It has been noted that former presidents Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued a Proclamation Order declaring the last Thursday of November to First Wednesday of December as the Mindanao Week of Peace.

The order stated, “all concerned government agencies and instrumentalities including government owned and controlled corporations and members of the private sector and civil society based in Mindanao are enjoined and encouraged to engage in relevant and meaningful activities of the Mindanao Week of Peace in coordination with the Bishops-Ulama Conference”.

Through the request of the Peace Advocates Zamboanga and the interreligious Solidarity Movement for Peace, Mayor Lobregat endorses the Week of Peace 2012 Celebration. It enjoins the active participation of all schools, government entities, private institutions, NGO’s, parishes, church- based organization, civil society groups, urban poor communities and other people’s organizations in this years lined-up activities.
