House Deputy Speaker Rep. Beng Climaco-Salazar has expressed confidence that newly installed Navy flag Officer-in-Command (FOIC) Rear Admiral Alexander Pama will have the interest of Zamboanga City and the island provinces in his priority citing the latter’s attachment to Zamboanga.

Aside from having studied at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) during his younger years, Pama was also assigned in Zamboanga City in various positions, the last and highest of which was as commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NAVFORWEM).

“We congratulate the new FOIC Alex Pama, his efforts in Task Force trillium was cited as hallmarks in his position," the District 1 congresswoman said.

According to Climaco, Pama’s assumption as FOIC Tuesday was an affirmation of how President Noynoy Aquino values accomplishments of leadership roles even in Mindanao.

As head of Task Force Trillium when he was the NAVFORWEM chief, Pama was instrumental in the successful operations for the rescue and or release of kidnap victims, three of which were Zamboangueno teachers from Sacol Island last May 2009. Several suspected kidnappers were also neutralized during operations initiated by the Task Force.

Climaco said Admiral Pama is well deserving of the highest navy post because of his accomplishments and capability.

The lady solon along with Mayor Celso Lobregat on Tuesday attended the change of command at the Philippine Navy headquarters in Manila where President Aquino was the guest of honor and presiding officer.

Meanwhile, Rep. Climaco shares Mayor Lobregat’s call or the return of the Riverine units of the Philippine Army to augment troop deployment in Zamboanga.

While the current military troops and the law enforcement units are doing their best efforts to secure the city and its people, Climaco is of the belief that the Riverine units will further enhance and supplement the existing forces.

“Likewise with mayor lobregat, we still push for the return of the Riverine units to augment troop deployment in ZC," she added.

During the Christmas break the congresswoman visited police and military installations as far as Limpapa in District 1 to find out the state of security efforts done in the community. -- Rham Joseph Cabasag
