Zambonga City District 2 Representative Hon. Erbie Fabian reiterates his call for the authorities to remain vigilant amidst the continuous security threat posted by lost command elements who are conducting surprise harassments and kidnapping here in the city.

The call of the solon came after another elementary school teacher from Labuan Elementary School was abducted Tuesday night by at least 18 unidentified armed men clad in military uniforms who struck the western village of Labuan this city shortly after 6pm in the evening.

Fabian personally went to talked to Labuan Barangay Chairman Oning Maravilla early Wednesday morning, right after the reported abduction incident transpired in that village in which the prime target was the barangay chairman himself.

The solon is a close family friend of the Maravilla’s due to their family ties even before some members of both families entered into politics. Fabian comforted the family situation of the village chief as well as discussed the possible measures in which the solon could be of assistance, particularly in the matter of security which is the prime concern of the village at present.

“Once again, I am calling on our law enforcement authorities to be more aggressive and intensify their security measures being implemented here in the city, we are once again a victim of such kind of unlawful act,” Fabian said.

The solon also visited the police personnel assigned at Labuan police station as well as the CAFGU detachment in the nearby village of Sinubong who were the ones who immediately responded on the distress call when the incident happened, in order to consult the situation of the authorities in the area.

Barangay Chairman Maravilla meanwhile confirmed that he was the target of the kidnappers when they docked the coastline of the village after sunset. The armed men, believed to be lost command elements disembarked a customized speedboat that evening and immediately dispersed themselves in the coastal area where they were able to disarmed  a policeman and a civilian volunteer who were on duty in the said location, then proceeded to the residence of Maravilla which is located around ten meters away from the docking point in the coastal village.

The kidnappers then barged into the gate of Maravilla’s residence, some of them jumped-off the fence, but it so happened that no one is inside the house as the barangay chairman and his family were in the city proper yet that time when the incident happened.

Being disgusted of being un-able to find their target, the kidnappers left Maravilla’s residence and jumped out of the opposite side of the fence where the residence of Mr. Arnold Ongchua who happens to be a close relative of the Maravilla’s and forcibly took Mrs. Flordeliza Ongchua,47. Pointing their guns to the residence who were disturbed of the commotions in the small village, the suspects immediately withdrew towards the coastline where their speedboat is waiting and sped towards the direction of Limpapa waters bringing along their victim.

Maravilla said that police and military troops who responded to the area ten minutes after the incident happened tried to pursue the suspects aboard a government-issued motorized pumpboat were not able to reach the direction of the perpetrators who dis-appeared in the seawaters concealing the dark.

The city government of Zamboanga immediately convened on an emergency meeting the peace and order council yesterday headed by the city mayor to discuss on what possible coordinative measures to be undertaken in order to locate the suspects and facilitate the immediate recovery of the victim.

As this developed, Police Regional Office 9 Commander C\Supt. Napoleon Estilles who personally visited the place of incident, directed his troops all over the Zamboanga Peninsula region to be on red alert and conduct operations, particularly on areas where the suspects might have brought their victim from Labuan.

Estilles also coordinated with the Army’s Riverine Battalion and the Naval Forces Western Mindanao to conduct seaborne patrols in coastal towns which are possible drop off points of the abductors.

The combined authorities are still verifying the reports that the victim was brought towards the direction of the “Tripple SB” territory in Zamboanga del Norte province. There were no demands yet received by the immediate family members of Flordeliza Ongchua at present. – Bhong Simbajon
