The Employers Confederation of the Philippines Zambasulta Chapter, the recognized voice of employers by virtue of Presidential Letter of Instruction No. 688, is supporting the overwhelming call of the business community for a “true and genuine” representation in the Zamboanga City Water District Board representing the business and industry sector.

The business and industry sector led by Zamboanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry , Industrial Group of Zamboanga Inc. , Southern Philippines Deep Sea Fishing Association, and  10  allied business and industry organizations plus more than 104 business establishments are asserting their sectors right for a true representation of their sector, said ZCCI in  a press statement.

ZCCFI said a research paper from its secretariat underscores the water scarcity issue and sounded the alarm bell as a serious concern for a multi sectoral involvement and support. The white paper published in different local dailies focused on “water as a most precious resource vital to life and economic development ...that  it must be given a complete focus as to its prudent utilization and conservation” .

The ZCCIFI paper predicted that “water is predicted to be the next scarce resource countries will go to war and fight over this most precious but most wasted resource.... Widespread misuse , water pollution, overpopulation are some of the urgent issues that calls for immediate attention”.

The increasing threat of climate change , massive population growth, urbanization put a lot pressure on this finite resource... “ ZCCIFI paper said.

“It is for this rationale that ECOP Zambasulta Secretary General Roberto G. Valerio, in his formal letter addressed to Mayor Celso L. Lobregat thru Dra. Mila Fernandez, chairperson of ZCWD board supports and endorses the call of the business and industry sector to respect the call for true representation,” said the ZCCIFI press statement .

Currently, former mayor Efren F. Aranez sits as business and industrial sector representative in the ZCWD board whose 3-year term has already expired.
