1,000 Labuan folks served in ‘Fuerza’ medical mission PDF Print E-mail

Some 1,000 indigent residents of Barangay Labuan in the city’s west coast benefited from free medical and dental services extended by combined government agencies and the Fuerza Zamboanga led by District 2 Congressman Erbie A. Fabian last Saturday.

The barangay council of Labuan was backed by the medical and dental teams of Western Mindanao Command, Task Force Zamboanga, Edwin Andrews Airbase, Naval Forces Western Mindanao, 55th Engineering Brigade, and other volunteer doctors who united themselves to to share and give free medical services to both young and old Labuan residents who can hardly have necessary medical attention.

At sunrise, indigent residents started to crow the Labuan multi-purpose court which is the venue  of the outreach mission.

Top officials of Western Mindanao Command led by Maj. Gen. Rey Ardo were present to supervise the medical outreach and was one with Fabian and other agencies in the delivery of services to the people.

The new Wesmincom commander, Ardo conducted an ocular inspection and familiarized the remoted areas of Zamboanga City which is part of his jurisdiction in Western Mindanao.

Labuan barangay chairman Ronaldo Maravilla said his barangay is very lucky to benefit such laudable humanitarian service of Fuerza Zamboanga, saying that the activity is very timely as the people really need medical care.

“In behalf of the barangay council of Labuan, we would like to thank Congressman Fabian and his group, also the different military medical teams who supported this program for our poor residents here. This is a very big help to the community, especially those who really need medical care,” Maravilla said.

He said that considering the distance of their barangay from the city proper and the living condition of the residents in the area, it is a great privilege for them to benefit such laudable health program for the people.

Rep. Fabian said that delivery of health services does not choose people as long as there is an organization like the barangay council of Labuan, Fuerza Zamboanga and the military medical teams who are willing to provide basic health services to the needy,

Fuerza Zamboanga thanked the different medical and dental units of the AFP that volunteered in the medical mission like the Westmincom Dental Team led by Lt.Col. Roberto Calupitan and Maj. Gerardo Javier, 55th Engineering Brigade Dental Detachment under Capt. Johny Gabica and 1Lt Ryan Paul Janerol, Task Force Zamboanga Medical and Dental Team led by Lt. Col. Leonel Nicolas and Dr. Lynn Montejar, Naval Forces Western Mindanao Medical and Dental Team led by 1Lt Liberty Grace Monteldan and 1Lt Jenna Marie Bonayao, Edwin Andrews Airbase Dental Team led by Major Daniel De Vera, Labuan Health Center personnel,the Ateneo Volunteer nurses led by Ms. Leslie Anne Villanueva and the Pink Panther medical team led by Mrs. Laarni Sadain. — Bhong Simbajon
