Three more barangays are set to receive a portable combined rice and corn mill from the City Agriculturist Office by next week.

City agriculturist Diosdado Palacat disclosed the portable rice-corn mills were acquired through the efforts of 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian by way of his Priority Development Fund or PDAF.

Fabian said the portable rice-corn mills which can be easily transported by way of a trailer will be a big boost to farmers who can now mill their harvested grains rite at the site of harvest

He added this will boost efficiency in rice and corn milling operations and will be a major boost to agriculture producing areas of the east coast.

The 2nd district solon has managed to procure 10 units of the portable rice and corn mills through his congressional funds with Culianan, Vitali, Cabaluay, Talabaan, as initial recipients of the post-harvest facilities.

Among those lined up to receive the machines next week are Manicahan, Latuan and Buenavista.

The rice-corn mills are turned over to famer cooperatives in the barangays for them to utilize the facility among their farmer-members.

One of Rep. Fabian’s programs for the city has been to boost agricultural production with the aim of improving the food supply situation in Zamboanga City.

Fabian’s agricultural productivity program dovetails with that of Department of Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala’s aim of achieving grains self-sufficiency by the country by next year, 2013.

The duo are former colleagues in the House of Representatives during the 14th Congress.

The City agriculturist office under Palacat identifies the barangay recipients of the equipment in close coordination with the office of Rep. Fabian.
