BANGUINGUI, Sulu  – The Department of Tourism conducted  on Monday an ocular inspection where  a world class hostel will be constructed  aimed to serve the hostel requirement of  local and  foreign tourists visiting the municipality for vacation.

Mayor Abdulwahid Sahidulla said yesterday a four-man team  from the DOT and from the office of Senator Vicente Sotto  visited Barangay Kahikukuk,  the site where the proposed hostel will be constructed with the aid of DOT.

Sahidulla said the area is adjacent to the newly developed Manisan Beach Resort at sitio Landing  at Barangay Kahikukuk.

The place is now becoming one of the popular sites for picnic and overnight stay due to the crystal clear sea water and white sand.

DOT personnel Rene Benedicto Gobenciong, Danilo B Estacio, Domingo P  Sanchez and Danilo Chua  from the office of Senator Sotto also inspected the road to be concreted and funded by DOT leading to the proposed  site.

The DOT inspection team also expressed admiration of the scenery  surrounding  the Manisan Beach Resort coupled with the  abundant seafoods available for the guests.

Most of the food sold at the resort are seafoods cooked in different styles and tastes to suit the taste of the visitors.

Among the abundant sea foods available at the resort are fresh mud crabs, prawns,  sea mantis, curacha, lapu-lapu of different species and sizes, lobsters and clams.

The DOT in  the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOT-ARMM)  recently expressed optimism that Manisan Beach Resort will gain recognition in the outside world due to  its distinct  fine sand and pristine waters.

Local tourists said the distinct characteristic of the white and  fine sand of  Manisan Beach will make it very attractive to foreign and local tourists.

According to some visitors “a little more finishing touches  of the beach like the construction of  hostel and tents along the coast line  will further invite tourists to visit and stay at the resort.”

Last  July, Mayor Sahidulla in tandem with his wife Sulu District 2  Rep. Nur Anna  Sahidulla held the 1st Kalalamihan Sin Banguingui Festival at the said resort aimed at showcasing and promoting the tourism potentials of the municipality.

Over 500 local residents joined in the opening of the two-day festival with DOT officials and some foreign nationals as guests. — Nonoy E. Lacson
