The joint project of the Department of Tourism 9 and 10 called Inter-Regional  Media Travel Exchange held November 27-29 for eight newsmen of Zamboanga City was successful.

The Zamboanga City newsmen toured Cagayan de Oro City and Bukidnon with round trip plane tickets sponsored by Cebu Pacific Airlines. The flight is the newest of Cebu Pacific that was inaugurated recently to serve the people of the two cities and other neighboring cities and provinces.

DOT-9 Director Mary June Bugante thanked the local newsmen for accepting the invitation to join the tour during which they enjoyed some adventurous experiences. They are Antonet Go of Zamboanga Today, Maria Christine Jean Taola of TV 11, Liselle Lacastesantos and Hazel S. Romera of ABS-CBN, Jimmy Villaflores of RMN Radio, Jayvee Francisco of DXVP and Allen Abastillas of Daily Zamboanga Times. They were accompanied by DOT 9 personnel Precious and Melody.

DOT-10 Director Catalino “ Butch”  E. Chan III welcomed the Zamboanga City newsmen and toured them around CDO. He tendered them a sumptuous dinner for the local newsmen at Centrio Mall.

Chan said the three One Top Products of DOT-10 on tourism are white water rafting, Asia’s longest Dual Zipline at Forest Park  with a length of 840 meters at the top of the mountain of Barangay Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich Bukidnon and Camiguin White Island Beach.

Chan said that CDO is called the city of “Golden Friendship and Heart” as well Opportunities.

The city’s three top products come from Marka Leon  Company, Del Monte Philippines and  Bulua pottery stoneware that are exported to Germany and other countries in the world.

“We welcome the new door flight of Cebu Pacific that connects Cagayan de Oro City and Zamboanga City. There is a need to tie-up Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro City because we have the same story, hospitality and friendship,”.he said.

Chan added that CDO has many things to offer to tourists — local, national and foreign.

“Aside from beautiful white beaches and natural resources for tourism activities, we have economy, employment and many others things. We have Limketkai Center, SM City, Centrio Mall, Gaisano Mall, Soon to be inaugurated are Rustans, Ayala Group and another SM Mall,” Chan revealed.

Tourist officers for the Zamboanga City newsmen  were Decius “ Yoyong” Esmedalla, Carlson P. Maglangit, Mimi Aspillaga and tour guide Milo S. Dahilan Jr.

The local newsmen  enjoyed the Makahambus Cave (used by the Americans during WW 2), Historical Sinkhole adventure, Hanging Bridge ZIpline, white water rafting adventure in Barangay Dahilayan, Adventure Park Forest Park in Barangay Dahilayan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, Del Monte Philippines plantation and club house, Malasag Eco-Tourism Park, Capitol University Museum of three cultures, VIANDEP pasalubong center and several others. — Allen Abastillas
