A businessman and his five-year-old son were killed while another boy was wounded when two gunmen rained them with bullets at Riverside, Barangay Matibay, Lamitan, Basilan last Wednesday night.

Killed were Leo Antonio Magno, married, and his son Jester Magno.  Wounded by a stray bullet was Jonel Cuevas, 10.

Basilan Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo said that Magno and his son were at their store around 7 p.m., when two gunmen appeared and opened fire on them.

The attackers sped away aboard a motorcycle moments before the police arrived at the scene.

The Magnos were taken to the St. Peter Hospital in Lamitan where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Cuevas sustained a bullet wound in the left foot and was confined at the St. Peter Hospital.

Gonzalodo said that responding policemen led by Chief Insp. Maldan Mukaram recovered 16 spent shells of 5.56 caliber (M-16 rifle).

Gonzalodo added that he has directed his men to conduct an all-out investigation on the shooting as he revealed that they have already two suspects identified as Ghaneem Uyag Muksin, chairman of Barangay Matatag and a certain Nasir, son of a former Philippine Constabulary sergeant.

The police provincial director said that investigators are looking into love triangle as the motive behind the attack. -- Dan Toribio Jr. and Allen Abastillas
