The second Christmas Food Festival, one of the highlights of this year’s Pascua na Zamboanga reels off at 5pm today, Dec. 7 at the Plaza Pilar featuring variety of delectable cuisines and musical entertainment.

The food fest will run until tomorrow, December 8 starting 5pm onwards. It forms part of the calendar of activities of Pascua na Zamboanga themed “Pascua con alegria na Ciudad de Zamboanga!”.

At least 8 food concessionaires are participating in the 2-day food fest and will present their individual specialty or specialties.

Mayor Celso Lobregat is expected to spearhead the event opening along with other city officials and representatives from national agencies.

Meanwhile, Canciones de Pascua, a choral competition for elementary schools, was held yesterday, December 6 at the Paseo del Mar, also in line with the city’s thrust in organizing Christmas-inspired events for the constituents.

Pascua na Zamboanga kicked off December 3 with a lantern parade participated by city government officials and employees, ushering in the merry month.

The opening salvo was highlighted by the spectacular fireworks display at the Plaza Pershing and the ceremonial switch on of the Christmas lights and decors at City Hall, Plaza Pershing, Plaza Rizal, Plaza Pilar and Paseo del Mar.

Other events in line with Pascua na Zamboanga are the “One Mega Fair”, a Christmas bazaar organized by the Tzu Chi Foundation in cooperation with the city government and other agencies on Sunday, December 9 from 8 a.m. at the Convention Center of Garden Orchid Hotel.

The Best Dressed in Santa Claus Costume competition and Christmas Night Market are set on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at Vista del Mar.

There will also be alumni homecoming activities. First is the Ateneo Alumni Homecoming from Dec. 7 to 9 at the Ateneo Campus, and the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Alumni Homecoming from Dec. 14-15 at the university campus.

The Claret School will also have its Alumni Homecoming on Dec. 28 at 6 p.m. at the school’s open field, while the Immaculate Conception Elementary School Homecoming will be on Dec. 29 in Tetuan (Jumbo Bridge).

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Zamboanga will have its 65th Induction and Turnover ceremonies on Dec. 15 at a local hotel.

The closing program and awarding ceremonies are scheduled on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. at Paseo del Mar where the winners of the Open-Lantern competition, Best Christmas Landmark competition, 2nd Christmas Food Festival, Best Buffet Presentation, Best Christmas Cuisine and Best Christmas Goodies will be awarded.

The most-awaited activity is the New Year’s Countdown from 9 p.m. of Dec. 31 to 12 midnight of Jan 1, 2013 at Paseo del Mar.

Pascua na Zamboanga is a 15-day festival intended to spread the Yuletide joys and cheers. —Sheila Covarrubias
