The number one councilor of Isabela City, his companion and a teenager were wounded in an ambush that took place in Barangay San Rafael, Isabela last Thursday afternoon.

Basilan Police Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Cristeto Rey Gonzalodo identified the victims as Councilor Taib “Max” Alejo, married, of Market Site, Borman Asiddin of Kaumpurnah, Zone 1, and Alindra Luzaria, 15, of San Rafael.

Alejo sustained bullet wounds on the right portion of the chest and right hand, while Asiddin was hit in the back. They were taken to a private hospital in Zamboanga City where they were confined.

Luzaria was hit by a stray bullet in the left forearm and was brought to the Alano Hospital.

Gonzalodo disclosed that Alejo and Asiddin were riding tandem on an XRM Honda motorcycle that was negotiating the road at Purok Almaciga, Barangay San Rafael,after coming from Sumagdang around 5:25 p.m. when a lone gunman who was standing along the road armed with a .45 caliber pistol opened fire on them.

Alejo and Asiddin fell on the ground after they were hit by bullets, while Luzaria was also injured by a stray bullet.

Gonzalodo said that the gunman fled on foot towards Sumagdang proper.

Investigators recovered a spent shell of .45 caliber pistol at the ambush site and the motorcycle of the victims. -- Dan Toribio Jr.
