Occupants of a house in Mampang were terrified but unhurt after two grenades lobbed by unidentified persons did not explode before dawn yesterday.

A police report disclosed that Jalani Aming and other members of the family were sleeping when they were awakened by a loud thud on the roof of their house.

Aming rushed out of the house to check and was surprised to see two grenades without safety pins within the perimeter of their house.

Aming reported the incident to the police.

Bomb experts with their K9 sniff dogs rushed to the area and conducted a safe recovery of the explosives. They described the two explosives as fragmentation grenades made in People's Republic of Belgium (PRB).

The team also found the two safety pins of the grenades few meters away.

Police believe the grenades were defective as neither of the two has exploded. -- Dan Toribio Jr.
