Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday announced that she is in favor of the proposed creation of two regional police commands for the Autonomous Region in Mindanao Mindanao (ARMM), which comprises of five provinces and one city.

The plan to create two regional police commands was announced by no less than Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Jesse Robredo in a meeting yesterday with ARMM officials as well as police and military officials.

“I am in favor of it (the proposal),” Akbar said citing it will enhance the operations and implemenation of laws by the police.

The proposal made by Philippine National Police (PNP) Director-General Raul Bacalzo is for the creation of ARMM Police Regional Office-A and ARMM Police Regional Office-B.

ARMM-PRO-A will cover the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Marawi City while the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi will be under the ARMM-PRO-B.

Akbar said the creation of two ARMM police regional offices will enable the police regional directors to have a direct and close supervision over their respective areas of responsibilities.

“The police regional directors can closely supervise the officers and men in the impelentation of their respecitve duties and responsibilities as well as closely monitor the prevailing situation in their areas of responsibilities,” Akbar said.

The regional police headquarters is located in Maguindanao at present which is very far from the Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi provinces.
