Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday announced that she welcomes the creation of the Regional Special Operations Task Group-Basilan (RSOTG-Basilan) by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The PNP has created the RSOTG-Basilan to make the province free of election-related violent incidents during the 2013 mid-term election.

Appointed as the RSOTG-Basilan commander is Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) Deputy Regional Director for Administration (DRDA) Chief Supt. Mario Yanga.

Akbar said the creation of the task force will enable the authorities to focus and adopt measures to thwart unscrupulous groups from disrupting the peaceful conduct of the election next year in the province.

Akbar said the people could freely choose the province’ right leaders for the next three years once the conduct of the election is peaceful and orderly.

Meanwhile, Akbar has lauded the PNP hierarchy for naming Yanga as the task group commander.

“The PNP has chosen the right officer to head the task group,” Akbar added.
