Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday took pride in unveiling the P19-million archive building in Barangay San Roque, saying the city government of Zamboanga is only one of very few local government units in the country to have constructed its own repository of lifetime documents.

Lobregat said the archive building, where all important documents of the city government will be kept and preserved for a lifetime, is a landmark of his administration’s accomplishments. “Since time immemorial the city government never had an archive building.”

Undertaken by NLV Construction, the archive building is located in a government complex in San Roque where the City Abattoir, City Pound and City Veterinarian’s Office are located.

According to the mayor, the city government had implemented about P45 million worth of projects in the said government complex.

For his part, City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said the inauguration of the archive building yesterday marked another milestone for the city government of Zamboanga.

“Today is doubly significant for all of us as we celebrate the inauguration of this monumental structure and a landmark because after 75 years of governance we finally have an archive building. It is also very significant for all government officials because it is during our time and during our term that this archive building was built to store all our important documents,” Orendain said in his welcome message.

“It is very clear we are moving forward to make our city government the best and functional institution. If I am made to translate it Chabacano, I’ll put it in a nutshell ‘Adelante Zamboanga,’ the city administrator added.
