Various business and industry organizations overwhelmingly endorse Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc.  President Pedro Rufo ‘’Pocholo “ N. Soliven, as their genuine representative in the Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD) Board. 

The business and industry sector recognizes the leadership and competence of  Soliven to represent their sector .

Soliven was at the forefront and took the lead on several issues and advocacies that concern the business community in particular and the city in general, His dynamic leadership has unified the business community.

The group also acknowledges the honor and prestige Soliven brought to Zamboanga City and the entire country, when under his watch, ZCCIFI was awarded by the Confederation of Chamber in Asia and the Pacific,  the Most Outstanding Chamber in  Asia and the Pacific held in Kathmandu, Nepal and for two consecutive years, as the Most Outstanding Chamber in the Philippines bestowed by Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry annually during the culmination night of the Philippine Business Conference with President Benigno Aquino III conferring the award.

To recall, the ZCCIFI secretariat sounded the alarm bell on the water scarcity issue with an article printed in all the local dailies. It underscores water as the most precious resource vital to life and economic prosperity. It calls for prudent utilization and conservation. It predicted to be the next scarce resource countries will go to war and fight over. It further calls for a pro active and sustainable management of the city’s water resource in investing in water conservation and  calls for a genuine multi stakeholders engagement as users,planners and policy makers at all levels to encourage for a more transparent,accountable and genuine participative policy decision making body that will redound for the greater good. This is the rationale why the business and Industrial sector are asserting their right for genuine representation in the ZCWD Board.

The ZCCIFI endorsement letter was initiated and signed by Eng. Efren Y. Wee, ZCCIFI Executive Vice President and PHIDCO President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Edwin To VP- External and Chairman of Ciudad Medical and Budget wise and Danny Y. Lim, VP-Internal and CEO of Astoria Group of Companies. Other signatories were Atty. Arsenio Gonzales Jr., Tessie Sebastian,  Atty. Joe Batausa, Angela Monette Natividad, Ric Marmoleno, Oliver N. Ong, Luis K. Alvarez and Antonio Iturralde. ZCCIFI is composed of 168 members coming from the  industrial,commercial and medium and small enterprises, an affiliate of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as the single voice of business by virtue of the Presidential Letter of Instruction No. 780 signed and enforceable up to the present.

Following the lead of the ZCCIFI, other business and industrial groups have echoed the same appeal to ZCWD Chair Dra. Milagros Fernandez and Mayor Celso L. Lobregat , namely the Industrial Group of Zamboanga and Phil Export ZC President Eng. George T. Ledesma , Southern Philippines Deep Sea Fishing (SOPHIL) President Stephen L. Kaw, Zamboanga Shippers Association President Edgar Lim of Permex, Zamboanga ICT Council Chairman Felix Louel Saavedra, Employers Confederation of the Philippines Zambasulta Chapter Sec. Gen. Roberto Valerio, Zamboanga Hog Raisers Association President Eric Harina, Zamboanga Realtors Board President Meinrad Pantaleon,

Public Market Stall Holders Cooperative President Lourdes Mangaoang, Canelar Barter Traders Inc. President Mark Basaluddin, Consumer Net 9 Chair Rudy Iglesias, Zamboanga Tourism Council ‘s Vicente Lim, Zamboanga  Hotel and Restaurant Association’s  MaryAnn Go.

Soliven was also endorsed by 104 Small Medium and Large Enterprises operating in the city.

Soliven thanked all those who have shown confidence in him, saying he is humbled by the overwhelming support.

On the question of whether or not he will accept the endorsement,  Soliven said,”It is an endorsement from the business and industrial sector which i cannot ignore, however its not my decision, but Mayor Lobregat’s prerogative, whatever it is, let’s respect it,” Soliven said.
