A former barangay kagawad of San Jose Cawa-Cawa died after his head was run over by the rear tire of a government garbage truck at the Sta. Cruz market intersection yesterday afternoon.

The fatality, who remained unidentified as of press time, died on the spot, police said.

Traffic investigator PO3 Gerry Tarroza disclosed that a government garbage truck driven by Ronaldo Santiago of Abong-Abong, Pasonanca was on his way to Lumbangan dumpsite to deposit garbage when the traffic red light made the truck stop at the Sta. Cruz market intersection.

An XRM motorcycle driven by Bernardo Tillah, kagawad of Canelar, with his backrider (victim), was also moving on the same direction going east. It stopped beside the truck but they were on the outer right lane.

When the green light came, the garbage truck resumed speed and the motorcycle also entered the lane.

At this juncture, the rear right portion of the garbage truck swiped Tillah’s motorcycle, sending it crashing  on the pavement.

Tillah’s backrider (victim) fell on the left and inner portion of the lane and his head was run over by the rear right tire of the garbage truck.

Santiago surrendered after the incident while both vehicles were impounded at the central police station. – Dan Toribio Jr.
