A 9-year old student from the Ayala Central Elementary School bagged the title in this year’s Best Dressed in Santa Claus costume competition held at Plaza Pilar December 14.

Nico Adrian Cuaresma bested 16 other contestants representing different elementary schools in the 11th Best Dressed in Santa Claus costume contest organized by the City Government in line with the Pascua na Zamboanga festival. He went home with P6,000 cash prize and a trophy.

Mayor Celso Lobregat personally handed over the prizes to the winners immediately after the contest proper.

Second place winner was Clarisse Kaye Enriquez from Lunzuran Elementary School with P5,000 cash prize and trophy while finishing third is Piolo Miguel Buhion of San Roque Elementary School with P4,000 cash prize and trophy.

Joshua Revil of Zamboanga Puericulture School bagged the fourth place with a cash prize of P3,000 and a trophy and Justine Brian Dinampo of Putik Central School is fifth place with P2,000 cash prize and trophy.

Non-winners received P500 each.

Seventeen of the total 18 children aged 5 to 10 years old turned up for the competition Friday. One backed out at the last minute.

The competition is guided according to the concept- 50%, projection/deportment-30%, props- 10% and impact-10% for a total of 100%. The color required for the Santa Claus costume is limited to red and white of personal design.

The other contestants were Elnes Dave Tio, 7 years of Tugbungan Elementary School, Frances Mae West, 5, of Zamboanga Puericulture School, Peter Anton Agustin, 8 of Tugbungan; Daniella Joy Alob, 10 of Boalan Elementary School; Bie Jey Cristobal, 9 of Lunzuran Elementary School; Felizsa Faith Dongon, 8 of Tugbungan Elementary School; Fatima Sharra Jumad, 5 of Tugbungan Elementary School; Princess Kisses Jamee Peña, 8 of Tugbungan Elementary School; Arabella Kate Rivera, 5 of Zamboanga Puericultrue Center; Arman Cibert Dabalos, 10 of Boalan Elementary School; Lizen Araine Francisco, 9 of Tugbungan Elementary School and Joella Irene Jose, 10, of Lunzuran Elementary School.

Meanwhile, awarding of winners in the different competitions held in line with the Pascua na Zamboanga 2012 was held last night at the Paseo del Mar.

The competitions held during the Pascua na Zamboanga included the Open-lantern, Best Christmas landmark, and the best buffet presentation, best Christmas cuisine, Best Christmas goodies—all held during the 2nd Christmas Food Festival from Dec. 7-8.

Pascua na Zamboanga which reeled off December 3 with a lantern parade and the ceremonial switch-on of Christmas lights and decors at City Hall, Plaza Pershing, Paseo del Mar and Plaza Pilar, ushered in the merry month of the year.

Themed “Pascua con alegria na Ciudad de Zamboanga”, Pascua na Zamboanga is an annual Christmas festival organized by the city government intended to spread the yuletide joys and cheers. — Sheila Covarrubias
