‘Pascua na Zambo’ ends;contest winners awarded PDF Print E-mail

The Pascua na Zamboanga festival formally closed its successful run with the announcement of winners in three major competitions Monday night at the picturesque Plaza del Pilar.

Barangay Mercedes’ giant tower claimed top prize in the Best Christmas Landmark competition, besting nine other barangays to bag the P75,000 purse.

Their massive Christmas Tree won last year’s winner, Barangay Tetuan, the second prize of P60,000 while Barangay Sta. Maria placed third with P50,000. Barangays Recodo and Manicahan rounded up the rear at fourth (P30,000) and fifth place (P20,000), respectively.

Aside from the cash prizes, winning barangays also received a plaque while non-winning entries from participating barangays received a consolation prize of P7,000 each.

Meanwhile, Leo Carlo dela Cruz of Mampang emerged as the big winner in the Christmas Lantern competition, winning P10,000 in cash prize. His entry was also voted the People’s Choice, earning dela Cruz an additional P1,000.

Second place went to Arnel Palacio of Canelar (P7,000) and third place was awarded to Jungjung Bernardo of Cabatangan with P5,000 while Mhuziel Jul of Sta. Catalina and Joey Francisco of Ayala captured fourth (P3,000) and fifth (P2,000).

In appreciation of their involvement, non-winning participants received P1,000 each.

In addition, four participating food establishments in the Christmas Food Festival were also awarded with special recognitions.

Alavar Seafood Restaurant was awarded Best Buffet Presentation while the Best Goodies award went to Dulce Recuerdos de Zamboanga. Best Cuisine went to Chinitos D’ Gathering Place and Teng’s Grill earned the Top Seller honor. — Claudine Uniana/City Hall PIO
