A housemaid blamed as behind the killing of the daughter of an Indian couple last year was arrested in Barangay Cabaluay yesterday afternoon.

OIC-City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo identified the suspect as Vanessa Manuel Diaz, 21, of Cabaluay.

Diaz was nabbed on the strength of a warrant for homicide  by operatives of the City Police Office’s Investigation Section and Detective Management Unit led by Sr. Insp. Arlan Delumpines and Insp. Albert Alfaro.

Policemen rushed to Cabaluay with the warrant of arrest after receiving information on the whereabouts of the suspect.

A police report disclosed that Diaz was linked to the killing of a teenaged daughter of an Indian couple in Guiwan Old highway sometimes in October last year.
The victim sustained injuries in the head and died while undergoing treatment in a hospital.

In the initial investigation, Diaz told had the police that she and the teenager were inside their house at past 1 p.m. when two men broke and beat them.

She said she became unconscious after she was hit in the head with a hard object. When she regained consciouness, Diaz said, she was terrified to see the daughter of her employer was lying on the floor and bloodied.

The case was handled by the Tetuan Police Station and was later transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Management.

However, the case was almost dismissed by the city prosecutor office until finally it was handled by the City Police Office’s Investigation Section under the supervision of Delumpines.

Delumpines said he and his men dug deeper and gathered all the necessary evidences which indicated that the killing of the Indian girl was perpetrated by an individual who was staying in one house.

The evidences pointed to Diaz as the person who killed the girl after the latter caught her (Diaz) stealing valuables in their house while her parents were not around.
At the central police station yesterday, Diaz maintained her denial of the accusation and she claimed that two unidentified men entered the house and killed the girl after they sensed the suspects’ presence who were trying to rob some valuables. – Dan Toribio Jr.
