A habal-habal motorcycle driver was stabbed and choked before he was robbed by his four passengers in Morning Glory, Putik at dawn last Tuesday.

Leopoldo Francisco Tapian, 32, married, of Guiwan, sustained a stab wound in the head from an ice pick and injuries in the neck and was taken to the hospital.

A police report disclosed that Tapian was hired by an unidentified man at the Guiwan Bus terminal who asked him to take him to Putik around 3 a.m. with an agreed fare of P40.

When they were approaching a secluded area in Morning Glory, Putik, the man told Tapian to stop the motorcycle. Three other men were waiting for them at a dimly lit spot. One of them announced a hold-up and attacked him with an icepick, while another choked him with a wire.

Although wounded, Tapian managed to escape the attack and ran away.

The attackers opened fire on him, but missed their target and took his money and his motorcycle.

Police conducted a follow-up operation resulting in  the recovery of the motorcycle hundreds meters away from where Tapian was attacked. -- Dan Toribio Jr.
