Mayor Celso Lobregat Wednesday urged participants to the Zamboanga City Council Jamborette to always live up to the scouting ideals and creed and to continue to be of service to others.

Lobregat graced the opening of the 4-day jamborette in Abong-abong Pasonanca Wednesday morning where he likewise expressed continuous commitment to programs and efforts intended to promote the welfare and interest of the young.

The Jamborette, held from Dec. 19-22 and themed “Be prepared: Leadership for Life”, is organized by the BSP-Zamboanga City Council and participated by the different districts in the city where participants will get lessons on survival and play games as well as engage in environmental activities specifically on tree planting.

The event will also give the participants the opportunity to interact with people of different faiths and culture and share friendship lunches and fellowship dinners.

Also gracing the opening program were Councilor Luis Biel, who is the second vice chairman of the Local Council Executive Board; City Schools OIC Supt. Pete Natividad, who is Council Scouting Commissioner; Red Cross Administrator Vic Liozo Jr., who is the Camp Chief; Atty. Emil Aquino, member of the Local Council Executive Board; Alvin Collado, Camp Director and other scout masters and guests.

Lobregat, who is the Honorary Camp Chief, expressed confidence that many of the young boy scouts will grow up to be leaders in their own right in the future.

“I only hope that all would live up to the scouting ideals and creed,” he said, adding: “Let us be an inspiration, especially to the younger generations. Strive to be the epitome of our own ideal leader”.

The mayor also engaged the boy scouts in trivia games, to the delight of all the participants. — Sheila Covarrubias
