Christmas is a season of merry making, joy and sharing.

This was the message of District 2 Rep. Erbie A. Fabian to all the city’s 98 barangay chairmen during the annual Christmas party at Astoria Plaza yesterday, a tradition he has kept faithfully during the yuletide season.

Yesterday’s Christmas bash was the third in three days sponsored by the second district solon in his annual Christmas holiday celebrations.

Fabian expressed his gratitude to the barangay leaders for the support he has gotten during his years in public office serving in various capacities, the last nine spent as congressional representative for the city’s 2nd district.

What I will cherish most is the friendship we have evolved all these years as co-workers in the service of the city’s constituents even as he set aside politics for a day to break bread with the barangay officials.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Ligang ng Barangay head and Councilor Amman Nuno paid tribute to Cong. Fabian who he said has always supported the barangays and the association all these years.

Nuno said Rep. Fabian embodies the ideals of a true leader and civil servant, one who listens, consults, supports and back his promises with concrete actions much to the advantage of the residents of the city’s rural areas.

Nuno thanked Fabian for having stood steadfast in support of the barangays all these years and wished the solon best of luck in his future endeavors.

Councilors Lilia Macrohon-Nuno and Mel Sadain echoed the remarks of Councilor Nuno, while extending their own Christmas felicitations to the barangay chairmen.
As usual, the bash was accompanied by gift-giving to all barangay captains and the raffle of attractive prizes to lucky winners.

Biggest winner was the officer-in-charge of the island barangay of Busay, Sacol, in the east coast.

Baddah Lasal went home from the Fabian Christmas Party with a Honda Wave 100 motorcycle, the grand prize winner of the raffle draw that also saw Landang Gua Barangay Captain Jul Adjula winning a 7-ft refrigerator as 2nd prize, while Bolong Barangay Chairman Tony Evangelista copping the third prize of a twin tub washing machine.

Several others brought home household items such as water heaters, emergency lamps, oven toasters, microwave ovens, comforters and other attractive prizes.

An impromptu group Christmas carol singing contest was also staged with the group of Zambowood barangay chief Rommel Bacasong winning the top prize of P5,000 courtesy of Cong. Fabian.

Next on the solon’s calendar is the bash for barangay kagawads, the city’s working media, the orphanage, the home for the aged and the center for children in conflict areas in the next couple of days.

Fabian also said he plans to visit some barangays to share the Christmas cheer to the less fortunate people.

It is my way of sharing God’s blessings for the year with my fellow Zamboanguenos.

My family and my way of spending Christmas here in the city, Rep. Fabian added.
