OIC-City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo yesterday disclosed that the celebration of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day inZamboanga City was peaceful and orderly.

De Ocampo said that based on police records,  there was no untoward incident on December 24 and 25 under his areas of jurisdiction.

As early as the first hour of Tuesday, De Ocampo himself led his men in going around the different parts of the city to check the situation.

The entire police force have been deployed in various areas together with soldiers of the Task Force Zamboanga as they were given no vacation leave so as to ensure peace in the whole Zamboanga community.

The local police, TFZ and the city government had met earlier to come up with a security plan for the yuletide season.

De Ocampo said that everything turned successful partly because of the cooperation of the public.

De Ocampo added that tight security will remain until the New Year’s Eve and beyond.

The security measures are similar to those adopted in the 2011 Christmas with no further changes as it is very effective.

Police reports showed there were shooting incidents before Christmas but authorities considered them as isolated cases with personal disputes as common motive. – Dan Toribio Jr.
