Efren G. Penaflorida, Jr., 2009 CNN Hero of the Year, will be arriving today from Manila to be the special guest of the 2nd Cesar Climaco Young Leaders Assembly at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Together with House Deputy Speaker for Mindanao Beng Climaco-Salazar, they will deliver special messages to the leaders of Zamboanga Sangguniang

Kabataan Barangay in a special forum about "Ako Ang Pagbabago". This event seeks to instil the value of selfless and honest service to the youth leaders of Zamboanga City.  On Friday, January 14,  Penaflorida will be the inspirational speaker of the launching of the "Libreng Aklat Para Sa Lahat Program" of the Asia Foundation's Book for Asia literacy program at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Gymnasium. This is being coordinated by the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City and being supported by the Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Inc. The Rotary Club will award Penaflorida the prestigious Rotary Paul Harris Fellow Award on the same occasion.

The Asia Foundation's educational books will be distributed to 85 public elementary schools of Zamboanga City through the Department of Education-Region 9. These books are aimed to enhance the English-capacity language of the pupils, sharpen their vocational and research skills, improve their knowledge and literacy.

Last December 13, Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III conferred to Penaflorida as one The Outstanding Young Men of the Philippines (TOYM) Awardees for 2010. He was cited as a young model and inspiration in the Grassroots Education and Community Service category. The awarding ceremony was held at Malacanang.

Aside from educators, civic leaders, high school and college student leaders are invited to witness this significant educational event. The event at WMSU is open for free to the general public.
