9th death anniv of Ma’am Caling set on January 2 PDF Print E-mail

Zamboangueños will troop to the Jardin Maria Clara in Pasonanca on Wednesday, January 2 to commemorate the 9th death anniversary of Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat, the city’s 19th and only woman chief executive, who passed away January 2, eight years ago.

The commemoration will kick off with a mass at 4pm at the Holy Trinity Parish in Pasonanca.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, eldest son of the late Ma’am Caling, and House Deputy Speaker and District 1 Representative Beng Climaco will lead city government officials including members of the City Council, representatives from national and local agencies and multi-sectoral groups of the city, in the different activities. The Lobregat
children and other close relatives are also expected to take part in the activities.

After the mass, the wreath laying rite and the commemorative program will follow at the Jardin Maria Clara.

The past years since her death in 2004, people demonstrate their undying admiration, respect and appreciation to the late Ma’am Caling touted as the most endearing person to be the mayor of Zamboanga, by participating in the activities lined up for the commemoration of her death anniversary .

During the program, Cong. Climaco will give a message while Mayor Lobregat will give the response. The internationally-acclaimed Zamboanga Hermosa Chorale will give the song tribute while the Philippine Air Force Band will play the taps during the wreath laying rite.

Ma’am Caling died at the age of 83 in a hospital in Manila due to cardiac arrest on the night of January 2, 2004. Throngs of people not only from this city but other parts of the country and even some parts of the world mourned and grieved her loss. — Sheila Covarrubias
