The office of the Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guard Section-9 has destroyed some P 700,000 worth of firecrackers in this southern port city, a top FESAGS official announced.

FESAGS-9 commander Chief Insp. Mark Azur said the destroyed firecrackers, comprising more than 100 boxes, were confiscated in the different parts of the region.

Azur said 60 of the more than 100 boxes of firecrackers were confiscated from two business establishments in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur during an inspection.

They confiscated the firecrackers after the owners of the business establishments failed to show a permit from FESAGS except for a business permit from the local government, Azur said.

A firecracker dealer is required to secure a permit from Camp Crame while retailers from the regional police command before they could engage into the business of firecrackers, he said.

Some of the firecrackers packed in boxes were confiscated by the Zamboanga Coast Guard Station aboard passenger-cargo ferries at the port of Zamboanga, he said.

The firecrackers, destroyed Thursday, were placed on a pit they have digged at this city’s dumpsite in Barangay Lumbangan, 8.8 kms east of this city, before it was set ablaze, he said.
