District 2 Congressman Erbie A. Fabian yesterday commended the police and the military for the peaceful celebration of New Year’s Eve here in Zamboanga City.
Fabian the effective security measures implemented by the local police and the military ensured the safety of the community during the revelry.

“I commend the local police and the military for ensuring a peaceful environment in welcoming year 2013. Kudos to them for a job well done,” Fabian said.

The solon made rounds of the city the night before New Year’s Eve and saw policemen and soldiers deployed in strategic areas of the city.

Fabian said the authorities did their job in assuring the security of the people in the city at the height of the celebration.

Based on police reports, Zamboanga City registered the lowest number of firecracker incidents during the entry of 2013 in the entire region.

The three cases of stray bullets were considered by authorities as isolated cases compared to the numerous victims registered in last year’s revelry.

OIC City Police Director Sr.Supt. Edwin de Ocampo had led the sealing of the muzzles of firearms of all police personnel under his command and a thorough inspection after January 1, showed no violation by  any policeman with regards to firing of guns during New Year’s eve. —BhongSimbajon
