City Health Officer Rodel Agbulos yesterday announced that the city government is set to construct more health centers this year as it aims to improve the delivery of basic health services to the poorest of the poor.

The renovated or newly constructed health centers will then be named as “Wellness Center and Maternity Lying-in Clinic” with complete facilities, medicines and health personnel including nutrition scholars and health volunteers.

As programmed, millions of pesos have been appropriated for the renovation/construction of wellness centers in the barangays of Tumaga, Ayala, Sangali, Sacol Island, Vitali and Talon-Talon (major renovation for lying-in clinic), Baliwasan, and Recodo.

At present, four wellness centers are undergoing major repair like those in Sta. Catalina, Calarian, Manicahan and Mercedes, Agbulos said.

Calarian Wellness Center is scheduled to turn over the facility to the CHO while Sta. Catalina, which is now undergoing major repair, is already 80% completed.

Agbulos said the city government has set aside sufficient funds for the construction of new wellness centers and repair for those existing but dilapidated ones.

So to easily identify the wellness centers in the barangays, the City Engineer’s Office has come up with one and unique design of a two-storey building. However, funds vary depending on the size of the land area.

Before the term of the Lobregat administration ends, Agbulos assured that all health districts of the city will have their new wellness centers and maternity lying-in clinic.-- Jimmy Villaflores
