Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday morning distributed the city government’s cash assistance amounting to P54,000 to 14 families who were affected by a fire incident in Barangay Mampang, this city last October.

In distributing the cash assistance at City Hall, Lobregat explained to the beneficiaries that the amount was too small to compensate the properties they lost to the fire but it is something at least to start on.

He said the incident was an unfortunate episode or event that nobody would want to happen. “But it has happened and we hope and pray that it will not happen again”.

Of the total, 6 families received P5,000 each as their houses were totally destroyed by the fire, while 7 others, considered as houses sharers, received P3,000 each, so did one family, whose house was partially damaged.

Assisting the mayor were Evelyn Las Marias, officer-in-charge of the City Social Welfare and Development Office, her staff and CSWDO field officers who identified the beneficiaries and Mampang barangay officials. — Vic Larato
