Zamboanga City Water District  (ZCWD) Board member and women sector representative, Nelida Fernandez Atilano,  has been elected as the new ZCWD Board Chairperson during the Board meeting held on January 03, 2013.  Election of the ZCWD officers is held every first meeting of the odd-numbered year

Likewise elected as Vice-Chair and Secretary of the Board were Directors Efren F. Arañez and Edwin Caliolio respectively.

Prior to her appointment as Director of ZCWD in 2008, Chair Atilano was Vice Chairman of the Philippine National Red Cross, Zamboanga City Chapter from 2005 to 2008.
Earlier in her career, Chair Atilano was an active President of  various organizations namely Zamboanga Blood Council from 2004 to 2009,  Mother Butler Mission Guild from 2003 to 2005,  the Zamboanga A.E. Alumni Association in 1998 and the Zamboanga Jayceerettes in 1970.

She also served as Interim City Councilor of Zamboanga City after the 1986 Edsa 1 Revolution and Chairman of the City Beautification and Cleanliness Committee during the tenure of the late Mayor Vitaliano Agan.  

The Chair is a graduate of a degree of Bachelor of Laws from the Zamboanga Arturo Eustaquio Colleges (presently Universidad de Zamboanga) and married to former City Mayor Jose Vicente F. Atilano II.

The new Chair said she foresees a challenging 2013 for ZCWD as millions worth of barangay water system projects are lined up for implementation with the aim of improving and expanding its services. As new head of the policy making body, she also vows to continue her predecessor’s work geared towards enhancing the efficiency and professionalism of the water district workforce and maintaining the goodwill of the community, as well as, ZCWD’s valued customers.
