Eleven policemen, including three officials, were awarded the other day for their active participation in the rescue of flood victims in Putik last week and seven others were recognized for the arrest of the hostage taker and the saving of  the life of a six-year-old boy at a local mall.

Awarded for their successful rescue operation involving flood victims in Putik last January 2 were: Supt. Diomarie Albarico, group director of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, PO1 Marvin Surbano; PO3 Sylvia Dicen; PO3 Lorelie Sarabia; PO3 Geraldine Agcopra; SPO2 Allan Lagumbay; SPO2 Divine Tingcang; SPO2 Salvador Belchez; SPO3 Romeo Remotin; SPO4 Rodolfo Apiado; Insp. Ramon Isidro Bautista and Sr. Insp. Noel Guevarra.

They each received a medal for the meritorious action pursuant to General Order No. 5426  issued on January 11, 2011.

Pursuant to General Order No. 5427 issued on January 11, 2011, the “Medalya ng Kasanayan” were awarded to SPO2 Ramil Bandaying, PO1 Mursid Maulana, PO1 Salimar Asjali, PO1 Resty Diongsan, PO1 Vicente Adanza Jr., PO1 Maximo Gagaracruz Jr. and PO1 Jerson Dela Cruz.

They were recognized for their decisive and immediate response during a hostage taking incident at Mindpro Citimall about 4:30 p.m. that resulted in the arrest of Al Abisani and the confiscation of a food tong and the rescue of John Francis Manlangit.

The “Medalya ng Kasanayan” was pinned on the awardees by no less than Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo. It was witnessed by Mayor Celso Lobregat, PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo, Police Regional Office-9 Director Elpidio De Asis and City Police Director Sr. Supt.
