The city government yesterday doled out P440,000 in cash incentives to 10 local athletes who participated in and reaped medals from the recently-concluded 7th BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games in General Santos City.

Mayor Celso Lobregat distributed the cash incentives to the athletes individually during rites held at the City Hall conference room yesterday afternoon.

The Zamboangueño athletes excelled in the pencak silat event, harvesting 3 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 1 bronze medal.

The gold medalists received P60,000 cash incentive each. They were Abdulgani Ishmael, Alshamer Ibnohasim and Nohman Ladjamatli.

Silver medalists Albasher Ibnohasim, Suharto Asdal, Mutmanna Asmad, April Joy Alarcon, Lhea Garde and Joselle Truza received P40,000 cash, while the bronze medalist, Beberly Mahusay, went home with P20,000.

The games held from December 7 to 10, 2012 were participated in by athletes from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) to promote friendship among member-countries.

Assisting in the cash distribution were City Sports Officer Bernardito Patiño and other city officials. — Vic Larato
