Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday morning motored to Barangay Labuan in the west coast and distributed rice and cash assistance to senior citizens and hundreds of families whose houses had been destroyed by typhoon Lawin in September last year.

Assisted by Councilors Noning Biel and Gerky Valesco together with Labuan Barangay Chairman Ronaldo Maravilla, Lobregat first distributed three kilos of rice to each of 50 selected senior citizens as assessed by the field office of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

Then, the chief executive assisted the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) staff headed by Social Welfare Officer Elizabeth Dy in the distribution of the national government’s cash emergency shelter assistance to typhoon victims.

Recipients of DSWD’s cash assistance were 146 families from Labuan and 22 other families from nearby Barangay Patalon. Families whose houses were totally destroyed by the typhoon received P10,000 cash aid, while those whose houses were partially destroyed received P5,000 each.

The DSWD has already released a total of P1.5 million in emergency shelter assistance for typhoon Lawin victims, including those from Sinunuc.

Yesterday’s distribution was also facilitated by CSWDO staff headed by the officer-in-charge Evelyn Las Marias.

Also present were former councilor Charlie Mariano, Nardz Sampang, Tito Espiritusanto, Violy Alejandro and barangay officials from Labuan and Patalon. — Vic Larato
