2 boats engaged in illegal fishing seized in Dapitan PDF Print E-mail

Two fishing boats were seized by the Zamboanga del Norte 9th Maritime Provincial Unit led by SPO3 Allan Pestañes around 4:p.m last Thursday for illegally fishing within the radius of the  municipality waters.at the coastal area of Barangay Taguilon, Dapitan City

9th Maritime Regional Chief Supt. Rollen D. Arino said that a  case for violation of the Fisheries Code R.A 8550 has been readied against the two fishing boats.

Meanwhile, Arino disclosed that two fishing boats were also seized in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay for illegally fishing within the radius of the municipality waters. The value of the two fishing boats is P 600,000. A case of violation of the Fishing Code was filed with the municipal court in ipil. The two boats were taken to the Ipil wharf.

Arino said that during the operation, an unlicensed  M14 rifle was recovered, thus another case of illegal possession of firearm has been filed against the fishing boat owner.

Arino who assumed command last December 1, 2012 warned fishermen in the region against engaging in illegal fishing. Instead help preserve and protect the environment so that continuity of bounty harvest will be benefited by all the people.— Allen Abastillas
