Zamboanga City residents should start learning to be pro-active participants in responsible governance if they want their leaders to act in accordance to their needs and wants.

That is why the May 13 polls will be crucial as the electorate here will vote for leaders who will hopefully give a listen to what the city folk really want.

This was implored by re-electionist Councilor Atty. MelchorSadain in the television program CuentasClaras, aired last weekend, when asked to assess the performance of the local officialdom here.

“It is about time for our people to become pro-active and demand from their leaders what their real needs and demands are, “ Sadain said.

He decried the seeming apathy of the locals here, as he saw a seeming timid nature of the Zamboanga folk, content on getting what is being dished out by the local officialdom.

Take for instance the delivery of social services; the young legislator from District I said, the city government fell short to his estimation in delivering basic needs of the people, choosing instead to pour funds into infrastructure projects in areas where the real need was something else.

Building school classrooms is noteworthy Sadain added by it should be complemented with training of teachers, providing the people the means so they can send their kids and keep them in school.

He looks optimistically at the May polls as a possible shift in priorities now that a new mayor is to be elected.

Sadain, who is seeking a third term as a guest candidate of Cong. Erbie Fabian’s Fuerza Zamboanga coalition ticket, said he believes the 2nd district solon will move into providing better social services to the city if and when he is elected into office.

He said Rep. Fabian’s 10-point agenda is explicit in this regard and he thinks the solon from Mercedes is sincere in delivering the goods to the people, once he is chosen to be the next mayor of the city.
