District 1 congresssional aspirant Monsi Dela Cruz yesterday proposed the creation of a regular security force to secure the west coast from kidnappers and other lawless elements.

Monsi said if his congressional bid will be successful, he will work and push for the creation of a local security force whose specific main functions are to guard the coastline from Calarian to far Labuan adopt measures to prevent lawless elements and kidnappers to strike and victimize west coast residents as well as to gather intelligence information that will guide the force from any kidnapping or other atrocity plots.

Monsi said it is imperative to have a strong regular force to secure west coast considering that there have been four kidnapping incidents that had taken place in the area in the last three years. These are the kidnapping of a teacher named Barredo, another teacher Flordeliza Ongchua, businessman Charlie Rieth and the most recent victim, store and restaurant owner Edgar Fabella. Way back in the 80s two scions of the prominent Murga family were snatched by kidnappers in Maasin.

The servant leader said the proposed security force can be composed of police, military and  CAFGU operatives and civilians informants and assets.

Monsi said it is very vital to secure the west coast considering that there are several big investors in the area engaged in factories producing sardines and other products.
“If kidnappings will continue in the area, it will certainly discourage other investors to come here. It will stagnate Ecozone and it will scare the current investors engaged in canning business,” Monsi said.
