Young, promising but financially challenged students belonging to the indigenous communities here continue on with their dreams of attaining higher education, thanks in large part to the efforts exerted by 2nd District Rep. Erbie A. Fabian.

Yesterday, NCIP scholars studying in various schools in the city received their stipends from the second district solon in simple distribution rites held at the Zamboanga City Polytechnic College in Baliwasan.

The checks were personally handed over to the scholars by Abigail Bucoy-Marquez, City Congressional Office chief of staff who stood in for the solon who was attending to pressing matters elsewhere.

The scholars were under the 2nd district solon’s Educational Assistance Program as the solon, through the years he served in congress has continued funding the schooling needs of IP students here.

Fabian, in a speech delivered by Ms. Bucoy-Marquez during the short program reiterated his full support to the students saying poverty should not be a hindrance for one in attaining higher education and get an even chance in life to succeed later on in their chosen career.

Also delivering a message was regional director Salong M. Sunggod of the National Commission on Indigenous People or NCIP.

He took time to express his profound gratitude to Rep. Erbie and other leaders who continue their support for the educational program of IPs here.

The short program was held at the conference room of the Zamboanga Polytechnic College.
